Role of the Academe in Climate Change

The very first role of the academe in society is to define its own role. This is evident when a school writes down its vision, mission and goals. The rest of the roles come in due course such as to have a preferential option for the disadvantaged like granting scholarships to poor but deserving students.

When a school realizes that it must have a preferential option for the poor, its role to climate change adaptation is consequently defined because these people are considered as the first victims of the phenomenon. The academe perforce must address not only the issue of poverty per se but inclusively the causes.

The role of the academe in climate change adaptation was acknowledged when Albay Gov. Joey Salceda initiated Albay in Action on Climate Change (A2C2) whose chief recommendation is to integrate climate change into the curriculum.
