CCM conducts Employees’ Lenten Recollection 2018

The Center for Campus Ministry (CCM) organized the annual Employees’ Lenten Recollection on March 2, 2018. Some 254 employees listened to the talks about change and mindfulness at work.

Rev. Fr. Rolando V. Dela Rosa O.P., former Rector Magnificus of University of Santo Tomas (UST) and an alumnus of University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi (UST-Legazpi), shared his wisdom about change in conversion. The gist of Fr. Dela Rosa’s sharing about change practically tells employees that change, in its entirety, should not only be superficial but instead, it should be internal.

Through the dedicated effort of the Office of Guidance and Testing (OGT) Director Gemma S. Clet, the university was able to invite Maria Lourdes “Honey” A. Carandang, Ph.D., a world-renowned psychologist known for play and family therapy in the Philippines, for this year’s recollection.

Dr. Carandang presented a talk about the importance of mindfulness at work. In a gist, mindfulness is a way of life about self-compassion. Being a mindful employee means that he is aware of his surroundings and what emotions he is feeling to become more productive and focused in the workplace. Another component of mindfulness is rest. Nowadays, employees have to keep up with the fast pace of demands and deadlines at work that rest becomes an undervalued aspect of their lives. Mindfulness at work aids employees in integrating rest, peace, and quiet in their lifestyle.

The sessions about change and mindfulness coupled with the confession later in the afternoon renewed the general well-being of the Legazpi Thomasian employees.
