CCI spearheads Mayon Disaster Response

Considering the discomfort brought by three-month ordeal to some 60, 564 Mayon evacuees, the Center for Community Involvement (CCI) of University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi (UST-Legazpi) spearheaded the 2018 edition of the long-running Tabang sa Tugang or more popularly known as TASATU. The string of events under the TASATU was in response to the Mayon Disaster.

TASATU: Matanag

January 24, 2018

Five hundred kids and residents of Matanag, Legazpi City relocated to Albay Central School participated in the film showing and feeding sponsored by Stick n’ Sauce Canteen and Rev. Fr. Felix Legazpi III, O.P., vice-president for religious affairs.


January 27, 2018

One thousand kids and residents of Bogńa, Legazpi City evacuated to the Gogon Central School were included in the feeding program conducted by Stick n’ Sauce Canteen.

TASATU: Ka-Thomasians!

February 5-11, 2018

UST-Legazpi released care packs to 28 university employees, 17 student assistants, four janitors, and five security guards.

February 10, 2018

Thirteen employees from CASE, CCI, and PSE and 37 students from CASE, CEAFA, and CBMA visited San Andres Elementary School in Sto. Domingo to facilitate an art workshop, storytelling, and games.

TASATU: Padang Mayon Operation

February 11, 2018

Eight Anduyog volunteers and their adviser together with eight members of PNHS Archimedes Batch 2010 and nine Committed Young Volunteers (CYV) provided snacks and distributed relief goods and hygiene kits.

Ranga: Tabang sa Tugang Mayon Operations 2018

February 16-18, 2018

Center for Sports, Wellness, and Culture and the Arts performed in Bonga Elementary School, Bariw High School, and Guinobatan East Central School in order to lighten up the situation of the evacuees.

Catholic Educational Association of Legazpi (CEAL) Mayon Operations 2018

February 18, 2018

One hundred twelve CEAL participants conducted games, storytelling, art workshop, Eucharistic mass, food distribution, and an intermission number for the evacuees in the Bantayan National High School, Tabaco City.

Scholars’ Day Out and Relief Operation Part 1

February 25, 2018

The Scholars’ Society together with four employees facilitated games and feeding for 230 kids in Cabagnan Elementary School, Legazpi City.

TASATU: Guinobatan

March 3, 2018

Twenty non-teaching personnel and three students facilitated some games and distributed goods sponsored by St. James Academy of Malabon at the Mauraro Elementary School, Guinobatan, Albay.

Scholars’ Day Out and Relief Operation Part 2

March 4, 2018

Seven members of the Scholars’ Society, two employees, and 1 alumni provided hygiene kits and packs of goods to 41 families. They also conducted an interview called Mga Istoryang Bakwit where the evacuees related their situation and experiences to Legazpi Thomasians.

TASATU: Padang

March 16, 2018

The Preschool and Elementary Department conducted an outreach activity at Buraguis Elementary School, Legazpi City where 120 families of Padang, Legazpi City were evacuated.

Also, the following stakeholders and organizations extended a helping hand to the evacuees through donations in cash or in kind:
