UST-Legazpi advocates mental health awareness

The resource speakers, Dr. Raymond John Naguit and Assoc. Prof. Renato Jose Ma. V. Molano, answer questions prepared by the #HelpIsHere audience.

The Supreme Student Council (SSC), in partnership with the Office of Guidance and Testing (OGT), Aquinian Herald, UST-Legazpi Psychology Society, UST-Legazpi Peer Counselors’ Organization, Bicol Region Association of Psychology Students (BRAPS), Bicol University - College of Business, Economics, and Management - Junior Institute of Management, and Divine Word College of Legazpi - Council of Teacher Education and Arts & Sciences Students, organized #HelpIsHere: Mental Health in the Philippines on October 4, 2018 at the UST-Legazpi Dome and St. John Macias Student Pavilion Hall A.

In the morning, Dr. Raymond John Naguit, founder and national chairperson for The Youth for Mental Health Coalition, Inc., discussed the “Scope and State of Mental Health in the Philippine Setting”. Associate Professor Renato Jose Ma. V. Molano from De La Salle University-Manila tackled the topic, “Setting a Positive Atmosphere in the Society”. The Aquinian Herald wrapped up the seminar with a reaction dialogue.

In the afternoon, there were two breakout sessions. At St. John Macias Student Pavilion Hall A, Molano an advocate on positive youth leadership presented the topic, “Creating Positive Impact in Today’s Society”. At the UST-Legazpi Dome, Naguit discussed “Self-care: A Mental Health Hygiene”. The mental health awareness seminar continued until evening with the Maogmang Banggui: An Advocacy Night Geared Towards Mental Health at the Ayala Mall Legazpi Center.

The purpose of this activity was to increase the level of awareness and engagement of today’s youth when it comes to the mental health of Filipinos.
