CCI highlights importance of human rights


The Center for Community Involvement (CCI) through its National Service Training Program (NSTP) highlighted the importance of human rights during the event entitled Gabi ng Karapatang Pantao on December 14, 2018, at the UST-Legazpi Dome.

Gabi ng Karapatang Pantao is an interpretation of the current state of human rights in local, national, and international level. The event was a contest among NSTP classes handled by nine NSTP facilitators. There were 16 performances that depicted the issues and concerns of different sectors such as the farmers, fisherfolks, women, children, youth, workers, OFWs, indigenous people, urban poor, elderly, and the environment. The NSTP students through their presentations showed the possible interventions and solutions to address the issues and concerns of each sector. The performances were judged by Professor Alvin A. Sario, Ph.D., Mr. Dominic San Jose, and Mr. Enrico Manallo. The winners were block BSA/TM 1 (champion), block BS Pharmacy (1st runner up), College of Engineering, Architecture, and Fine Arts (CEAFA) 1. The opening remark was delivered by Fr. Gallardo “Butch” Bombase, Jr., OP, through an audio-visual presentation. Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Regional Office 5 Director Atty. Arlene Q. Alangco was also invited as a guest speaker to give updates on human rights.
