The Eighth Rector and President: Rev. Fr. Arceo postulated to a third term

The University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi (UST-Legazpi) have another milestone added to its history: Rev. Fr. Ernesto M. Arceo, OP, STL, PhD was postulated as the eighth rector and president. On March 23, 2019, the Members of the Board of Trustees of UST-Legazpi with full trust and confidence on the leadership of Fr. Arceo, with an absolute majority, re-elected him for a third four-year term.

A Solemn Eucharistic Celebration and Installation Ceremony was conducted on June 21, 2019 at the Daragang Magayon Hall, UST-Legazpi, Rawis, Legazpi City.

The Principal Celebrant and Homilist for the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration was Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Legazpi.

The Installation Ceremonies formally began with a Processional and the Entrance of Colors followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

Rev. Fr. Felix C. Legaspi III, OP, Prior of St. Raymond de Peñafort, delivered the Welcome Address.

Susana C. Cabredo, EdD, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, gave the Introduction of the Honoree.

The Reading of the Charge was given by Rev. Fr. Edwin A. Lao, OP, MM, Vice-President for Administration and Finance.

Very Rev. Fr. Napoleon B. Sipalay, Jr., OP, Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines and Chair of the UST-Legazpi Board of Trustees, led the Administration of the Oath of Office and Profession of Faith.

Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon, DD, administered the Imposition of the University Medallion.

The University Ring was presented by Rev. Fr. Roman L. Santos, OP, Assistant Vice-President for Administration and Finance and Financial Director of the UST-Legazpi Hospital.

Jean E. Cardiño, PhD, from the Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office Nov., presented the University Mace.

In his Inaugural Address, Fr. Arceo emphasized two key elements of his administration which are having the right people and putting them in the right places and loving the nobility of providing students with the holistic formation not only in academics but also in the emotional, moral, and spiritual aspect.

Afterward, the Legazpi Thomasian community sang the UST-Legazpi Hymn and the Recessional concluded the Installation Ceremonies.
