AQ hosts ASEAN Human Rights info campaign in Albay

Students from different schools and other groups in Albay attended a human rights awareness campaign by the Philippine Working Group (PWG)for an Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) Human Rights Mechanism, October 1, at the Daragang Magayon Hall dubbed Human Rights: Asan na yan sa ASEAN?

The event, conducted in cooperation with the Commission on Human Rights as the European Commission's implementing partner for the project "Enhancing the Role of national Human Rights Institutions in the Development of an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism," was part of a nationwide university roadshow aimed at raising the public's awareness of ASEAN and its role in promoting and protecting the human rights of the peoples in the Region.

It is part of the PWG's awareness efforts in anticipation of the establishment of an ASEAN human rights body.

In a letter to the University, PWG for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism Chair Wigberto Tañada said the roadshow is an effort to popularize ASEAN and its impact on human rights in the region, as well as in the Philippines in particular.

The AQ College of Arts, Sciences, and Education and the Commission on Ethics and Advocacy sponsored the said event.
