Employees retool prior to acad year start

Faculty members from various departments of the University attended the institutional retooling workshop, Pagtais 2012, Teacher Effectiveness and Renewal: Relearning the Basics, June 4 to 6, a week before the start of the academic year.

The event was a briefing on various facets of an Aquinian educator, with discussions on emergency preparedness in times of earthquakes or fire; academic advising; the use and importance of computer technology in the academic setting; test construction; and computerized test banking, among others.

The teachers were also familiarized with the newly implemented K to 12 Curriculum.

Aquinas University of Legazpi Rector and President Rev. Fr. Ernesto Arceo, OP discussed Self-Esteem and the Ministry of Teaching, June 6, during the final day of the three-day seminar workshop.

He highlighted the importance of the disposition of the teacher in the outcome of the student learning.

“The teacher’s personality impacts the disposition of the student. The student’s disposition is important in the learning process. Whatever is received is received according to the disposition of the receiver,” he said, adding that the medium is the message.

Pagtais is a Bikol word which means to sharpen. It is the annual in-house training for AUL faculty. The event was sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs.
