SHS students represent country in int’l contests

The good performance in Math and Science of the Aquinas University of Legazpi Science High School continues as four of its students are selected to be part of the Philippine delegation to two different Mathematics competitions this year.

The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Philippines has invited Razell Jigs Caraig, Ralph Joseph Lacuna, and Ian Denzel Sy-Reyes to be part of the Philippine Team to the Asia International Math Olympiad, which will be held from July 28 to August 1, 2012 in Hong Kong.

Last month, MTG also selected incoming third year student Nicole Mae Picart be part of the 30-strong Philippine delegation to the 37th annual American Regions Mathematicians League which was held at the University of Nevada, in Las Vegas, USA, June 1 and 2.

Picart was also one of the country’s representatives to the 2011 China Junior High School Math Olympiad in Beijing, China in August last year, where she won two bronze medals. Another SHS student who represented the country last year was John Allan Olesco. He competed in the 5th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) in Modena, Italy, in September.

MTG is a non-stock, non-profit organization of mathematics teachers committed to develop and promote excellence in Mathematics education and training in the Philippines. It was organized in 1995 by a group of mathematics trainers from different schools.
