Aquinians win at PATLEPAM conference contest

Aquinas University of Legazpi (AUL) students and faculty member won in contests at the recently concluded Regional Conference on Innovation for Environmental Protection and Disaster Risk Management by the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management (PATLEPAM), July 28, at the Daragang Magayon Hall.

College of Arts, Sciences, and Education student Jerome del Castillo topped the student photography contest category with his entry “Recycle.” The second and third spots were won by entries from the Catanduanes State College with the title “Local Adaptation: Global Solution.”

A band of Aquinas University college students, composed of John Paul Lanuza (composer), Rhea Romano, Sam Reigner Aguilar, Jeffrey Yanzon, and Albert Joseph Datu, also won the second prize in the song writing contest student category with the composition “Ating Kayamanan.”

AUL faculty member Maria Nenia Cerdino-Nieto landed third in the technical paper category for faculty members. Her paper is titled “Mainstreaming the Local Broadcast Media in Disaster Risk Reduction in the Province of Albay.”

The winning entries were announced during the final day of the three-day event.

The meet was intended to showcase and promote the innovations of HEIs, local government units, non-government organizations, and the private sectors for environmental protection and disaster-risk reduction management.

Some 17 technical papers were presented during the course of the event, both in the faculty and student categories.

PATLEPAM is a network higher education institutions founded to enhance information exchange and sharing of environmental protection and management among member institutions, among others.
