Aquinian student publication renamed

Aquinas University of Legazpi’s official student publication The Phoenix has been renamed the Aquinian Herald, to reflect “an air of transformation” in the University, the paper’s Editor-in-Chief Roger Abitria IV announced this month.

AQ Phoenix has been the official name of the publication since 2007, a time when the University adopted the phoenix as a mascot to reflect the institution’s rise from the ravages of typhoon Reming in late 2006.

In 2011, the University installed its 8th Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Ernesto Arceo, OP. The new administration has vowed to strengthen academic excellence and moral transformation, among others.

“In the course of the year, last and now, there have been a lot of changes in the University. It seems an air of positive transformation is sweeping the school. In synch with all of these, the new editorial board decided to repackage the school paper to deliver higher standards of campus journalism to the studentry,” Abitria IV said.

The Aquinian Herald is expected to release its first issue this year.
