Environmental summit underscores value of water resources protection, preservation

The City Government of Legazpi and Legazpi City Water District (LCWD) in coordination with the Office of Student Services (OSS) conducted the part two of the “Protecting and Preserving the Water Resources and Watershed for the Next Generation” conference on Sep. 25, 2018 at the Daragang Magayon Hall (DMH).

OSS Director Jesus A. Barizo, CSP, presented the rationale of the program while the president of the Political Science Society, Virgil Anthony Gurimbao, gave the opening remarks. After, the following topics were presented to students (elementary, junior and senior high school, and college) and their advisers from public and private schools:

• The Water Resources in Legazpi City – Arnie Claveron (Legazpi City Water District)

• The Protection of the Water Resources and its Impact on the Next Generation – Madelyn D. Moral and Anro Orlanes (Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers)

• The Land Use Policy of the City of Legazpi and the Identification of Watershed – Engr. Joseph B. Esplana (Legazpi City OPD)

• The Legislative Measures of the Sangguniang Panglungsod along the Identification of Watershed in Legazpi City – Alfonso Barizo (Legazpi City Councilor)

Ar. Arnulfo Imperial, chairman of the LCWD board of directors, concluded the activity with his closing remarks.

This year’s environmental conference aims to identify practical solutions for watershed concerns through the collaboration of the academe, government agencies, and stakeholders such as Department of Education (DepEd) Legazpi City, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL), Philippine Air Force Region 5 (TOG 5), Philippine National Police (PNP) Legazpi, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
